The Pool:
(By Runiko)

Once there was a swimming pool. But this was a special swimming pool. People from all over the world came to dive into it and swim around. Big people, short people, fat people, skinny people, everybody.

One time, a famous movie star came to the pool. She posed for the cameras and TV stations up on the platform. Then, with a smile, she JUMPED...

...and made a tiny little splash in the pool.

Then there was a football player. He was big, and tall, and strong. He flexed his muscles and ran the length of the platform Then, with a shout, he JUMPED...

...and only made a small splash in the pool.

Then, there was this big, fat businessman. He talked on his cell phone and carried his briefcase with him up to the platform. He made a huge business deal and a whole lot of money up there. Then, straightening his suit, he JUMPED...

...and made a BIG splash in the pool.

Then, a little boy and girl got up on the platform together. They were only little kids, and they were scared about being so high up. But they started talking. And then they started telling jokes. And then they giggled. Then they laughed, and cried, and shouted, and danced, and talked, and twiddled their fingers and toes, and wiggled their noses and ears, and played, and smiled, and thought, and JUMPED...

...and you know what?

They made the biggest splash of all!

Author's Comments

I've always loved writing short stories for kids. It's much simpler than writing longer stories for adults, and allows for much less descriminating imagination. I'm sure to a mature audience, this allegory is obvious. But I like the simplicity of children.
